What goes where in Boston?

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that about 75% of the waste produced in the US is recyclable; yet the actual recycling rate is only 34%.

And the average recycling contamination rate is 25%. It means that 1 in every 4 items thrown in the recycling bin is actually not recyclable.

Contamination has a huge impact on the cost and quality of recycling. Everything contaminated can not be recycled and becomes garbage.

So let's focus on what goes where and what you can recycle!

So please help improve diversion by doing your best to sort properly using this signage and by recycling whenever possible!

Thank you!
